With the recession in what seems to be full swing, I’m spending more and more time online reading blogs about money. The truth is that I don’t know anything about money. I’ve never worked a real job, never had a credit card and I still only have a vague understanding of the terms “401k” and “IRA.” I’m just starting to look for work outside of college, and I think it’s time that I educated myself about money.
That’s why I’m recommending this free eBook online, put together by money bloggers. It’s fairly simplistic, but for someone like me, it’s a great way to learn the general guidelines of money management. Plus, it’s got a section for every age group – there’s even a section about how to educate preschool-age kids about money…!
Plus, there are a ton of student-written money blogs out there. Here’s my recommendation: Start with this post on the simply named Broke Grad Student which is a little treasure trove of links to other finance blogs.
I also discovered Mint a while ago, which I’m considering using later on, once I actually have a job. Though I haven’t used it myself yet, it’s won several awards, both off an on the internet. TIME Magazine even mentioned it in their Top 50 Websites of 2008. Not bad.
